Sore itu ia berencana menghadiri upacara peringatan Hari Pahlawan di Markas Tribuana Komando Pasukan Khusus (Kopassus) TNI AD, di Hamadi, Kecamatan Jayapura Selatan. Sepulang dari acara di acara di Markas Kopassus, Theys sempat menghubungi istrinya, Yaneke Ohee, bahwa dia sedang dalam perjalanan pulang, menggunakan kendaraan Kijang bernomor B 8029 TO.

Ia mengatakan dirinya bersama Theys tengah diculik oleh orang-orang amber (bukan Irian) di kawasan Skyline, antara Entrop dan Kotaraja, sekitar 10 kilometer dari Jayapura. The Indonesian military has played down Australian media revelations of a confidential report on the West Papuan insurgency, saying there was nothing new in the details published.
Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul, a military spokesman, said that the points highlighted from the leaked “Anatomy of Papuan Separatists” report — prepared by Kopassus, the Army’s notorious Special Forces unit — had stopped being controversial years ago.
“I’m not saying that the documents quoted are original — that still requires further investigation. Time to rethink ties with the Indonesian Special Forces unit, Kopassus
In light of the leaked Kopassus documents AWPA is calling on the Australian Government to rethink its policy of ties between the Australian military and the Indonesian Special Force Group, Kopassus. The leaked documents show lists of West Papuans who are supposed to be supporting separatism when in reality they are members of civil society organisations concerned about the human rights situation and the welfare of the people of West Papua.
Joe Collins of AWPA said “the level of spying by the Indonesian military on West Papuans is oppressive, with agents spying at every level of West Papuan society. There is an obvious systematic campaign to intimidate both human rights defenders and the West Papuan peoples a whole.”
It is now Forty eight years since Indonesia took over administration of West Papua from UNTEA in 1963 and the West Papuan people still continue their struggle for justice and self-determination. The large peaceful rallies by thousands of West Papuans at the beginning of this month calling for a referendum indicate just how unhappy West Papuans are with Jakarta’s rule over their lives.
Jakarta should be asking the question, why?
In May the military began a “socialising programme “ in Puncak Jaya with the idea of renovating homes, churches and markets while in July the people of the region suffered another military operation with reports of up to 600 members of the security forces involved in sweeps through the region resulting in civilian and military casualties. This is all reminiscent of the US programme in Vietnam to try and win the “hearts and minds” of the Vietnamese people.

Festival will highlight contribution of refugees to Australian society
he Festival of Refugees in St Kilda on Sunday August 21 will celebrate the positive and creative contributions made by refugees and asylum seekers to Australian society.
The festival is the largest annual celebration of its kind in Victoria. This year, attendees will include refugees from Sudan, South Sudan, Burma, West Papua, Sri Lanka, Congo, Tibet, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. The festival will feature cultural performances from members of Melbourne’s refugee population, including guest artist Red Horse, a Native American dancer, and Uyghur and Kurdish dancers.
Act for Peace, the international aid agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia, is one of the organisations that co-ordinates the Festival of Refugees.
Its Executive Director, Alistair Gee, said, “This annual festival is a wonderful and much-needed opportunity for refugees in Australia to share their stories and their gifts. So much of the public refugee debate in Australia does not include the voices and perspectives of refugees themselves, and features language that dehumanises and even demonises people who flee persecution for a better life.

Dokumen berjudul Anatomi Separatisme di Papua. dokumen rahasia itu dipublikasikan oleh jaringan media fairfax. Demikian ditulis The Canberra Times, Sabtu (13/8/2011).
Jakartapress: Ada 19 dukumen rahasia Kopassus TNI AD yang telah bocor ke media di Australia. Dokumen tersebut berupa data-data Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) dan pendukungnya yang dibuat 2006-2009.
Isinya secara detil menggambarkan kekuatan OPM. Termasuk tokoh-tokoh internasional yang mendukungnya.
Ada 40 anggota kongres AS, termasuk Senator AS dari Partai Demokrat, Dianne Feinstein. Selain itu mantan Perdana Menteri Papua Nugini, Michael Somare. hingga aktivis kemanusiaan Afrika Selatan, Uskup Agung Desmond Tutu. Semuanya dicap sebagai simpatisan OPM.
Daftar ini juga memuat para akademisi, wartawan, LSM, hingga petani dan pengusaha rental mobil.

AUSTRALIAN academics, church leaders, businessmen and journalists have been targeted by Indonesia's military for their supposed support of independence in the troubled region of Papua, a cache of documents and intelligence reports from the elite special forces unit Kopassus reveals.
The 19 documents, dating from 2006 to 2009 and obtained by the Herald, show Kopassus runs a vast network of spies and informants as part of its campaign to keep vice-like control of the region, and monitors the activities of foreigners in the region and around the world.
As well as providing a chilling insight into the deep paranoia of Kopassus and its interference in the daily lives of ordinary Papuans, the documents are also remarkable for the false assertions they contain.
A case in point is the inclusion of Naomi Robson - the former current affairs host who now runs an online dating service - on the list of ''foreign leaders in support of Free Papua''.

Jakarta – Masyarakat asli Papua merasa tidak mendapat banyak manfaat dengan bergabung dalam Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI). Sudah setengah abad lebih bergabung, kehidupan mereka tetap tertinggal.
Data Badan Pusat Sta
tistik (BPS) Papua pada 2010, menyebutkan, sekitar 80 persen penduduk asli Papua hidup dalam keterbelakangan, miskin, dan sangat tertinggal dalam pendidikan. Rumah tangga miskin mencapai 83,04 persen atau 482.184 rumah tangga.
Padahal lebih Rp 30 triliun dana dari pemerintah telah dikucurkan untuk otonomi khusus (otsus) di Papua. Dana Otsus dikucurkan dengan tujuan untuk mendorong pembangunan infrastruktur dan sosial ekonomi masyarakat setempat, yang relatif tertinggal dibanding daerah lainnya. Tapi kondisi Papua membuktikan dana Otsus tidak mengenai sasaran atau menyimpang.
Ketua Komite Nasional Papua Barat (KNPB) Maco Tabuni menilai UU Otsus Papua sudah tidak tepat sejak awal. UU Otsus Papua dianggap sebagai upaya pemerintah RI untuk memaksakan kehendaknya terhadap rakyat Papua. Dana otsus Papua, bagi Maco, hanya upaya win-win solution antara Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) dengan pemerintah.
“Jadi bukan bagian penyelesaian masalah Papua. Sebab sampai saat ini banyak masyarakat Papua merasa sebagai masyarakat yang terjajah oleh RI sejak tahun 1961,” kata Tabuni kepada detik+.

The doubts of people living in the central highlands about a socialising programme launched by the commander of Cenderawasih Military Command/XVII to create harmony which has been under way since 2 May 2011 have been confirmed.
The programme is nothing more than a shield which became clear when troops involved in the socialising programme suddenly halted these activities and started to conduct sweepings as part of a military operation.
Since 6 - 8 July, fully armed troops have surrounded the headquarters of the TPN/OPM under the command of General Goliat Tabuni in Tingginambut and a battle has been raging since 5 July during which three TNI soldiers were shot in Kalome, district of Tingginambut, and were flown by helicopter to Jayapura.

It shows West Papuan refugees returning to their village for the first time since it was burnt 3 weeks earlier by special operation "Sunset Merona" led by Papua New Guinea Police and Defence Force.
Now 6 months later, these refugees are still unable to return to their village and remain hiding in the jungle, on the run from special operation Sunset Merona.
This footage is clear evidence of contravention of the UN Charter for Refugees by Papua New Guinea, and also raises major questions about the legality of special operation Sunset Merona and the alleged involvement of the Indonesian Government in pressuring the Papua New Guinea authorities to undertake these raids.

KEBERADAAN aparat militer TNI AD –dari Batalyon Infateri (Yonif) 753/Arga Vira Tama (AVT) Nabire dan Batalyon Infateri (Yonif) 751/Berdiri Sendiri Sentani– di Distrik Tingginanmbut, Kabupaten Puncak Jaya, Papua telah meresahkan warga setempat.
Pasalnya, kehadiran mereka dengan jumlah yang cukup banyak membuat masyarakat setempat tak aman hidup, bahkan untuk melakukan aktivitas sehari-hari sekalipun. (The Jakarta Globe, 12 Juli, 2011).

Pada tingkat akar rumput, beberapa lembaga negara telah disebut-sebut sebagai kekuatan berpengaruh, setidaknya dalam menangani masalah Papua. Orang-orang selalu berbicara tentang keterlibatan Badan Intelijen Negara (BIN), Tentara Nasional Indonesia, Kepolisian Nasional, Kementerian Dalam Negeri dan Kantor Kementerian Koordinator Politik, Hukum dan Keamanan.
Kehadiran lima institusi sangat dirasakan oleh orang Papua dalam kehidupan mereka sehari-hari, seperti terhadap lembaga-lembaga negara lainnya. Kebanyakan orang Papua di daerah pedesaan belum pernah mendengar lembaga negara kecuali untuk lima lembaga.

Selama 48 tahun Indonesia gagal menggunakan perspektif anthropologic untuk mempertahankan Papua dan menemukan cara untuk membuat orang hidup dalam kemakmuran dan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan dasar mereka seperti ekonomi, pendidikan dan kesehatan tanpa korupsi dalam pelaksanaan kebijakan-kebijakan sosial dan program.
Tapi Papua Barat harus diperbolehkan untuk menentukan diri dan menjadi negara terpisah dari Negara Kesatuan Indonesia, seperti Indonesia lepas dari Belanda pada tahun 1945 sebagaimana ditetapkan dalam hukum internasional.
Dalam akhir analisis, konflik di Provinsi Papua Indonesia telah menghindari resolusi rasional oleh kedua nabi Melanesia dan diktator militer Asia dan politisi meskipun musyawarah selama 40 tahun ditambah. Sekarang fokus perhatian internasional yang bertujuan menyebabkan perbaikan sejarah dari masalah dan karenanya mengulur-ulur ‘ gerak lambat genosida’. Ini semua bermuara pada tiga pertanyaan yang mohon jawaban.

This is part 2 of an excellent and rare TV documentary about West Papua. It was broadcast in prime time on Channel 4 (UK). A year on from its original screening it still has not been seen in any other country.
Part 2 (6'57"):
• Indonesian Independence Day in Wamena, and the troops march as a show of force. The atmosphere is tense.
• Footage of the violent March 2006 student protest in Jayapura.
• Interviews with some of the protesting students who are now hiding out in the mountains. Students say the reason for the protest was the lack of sharing of profits from the giant American-run Freeport gold and copper mine in Timika.
• A contact gives Evan Williams a video he has shot showing environmental destruction around Freeport.

The Road to Freedom“, veranstaltet von den International Lawyers for West Papua und der Free West Papua Kampagne UK, hat weltweit für Schlagzeilen gesorgt. Nicht nur durch die Anwesenheit von hochkarätigen Parlamentariern, wie Andrew Smith, oder dem internationalen Menschenrechtsanwalt Charles Foster während der Konferenz, sondern auch weil zeitgleich 10 000 de Menschen in West Papua (Wamena, Jayapura) sowie in Papua Neuguinea (Port Moresby) für ein neues Referendum und für Unabhängigkeit von Indonesien demonstrierten. Die Massenproteste in den von Indonesien okkupierten West Papua waren gleichzeitig ein starkes Signal für die Unterstützung der Konferenz in Oxford.

INDONESIA: Testimony of military torture of Mr. Kiwo in Papua
Tuanliwor Kiwo and Telingga Gire, indigenous Papuans, were arrested and tortured in May 2010 by the Indonesian military. Mr. Kiwo survived by escaping after two days. Despite the international attention the case received after a video of the torture was published by the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) in October 2010, there are serious concerns that the perpetrators will not be brought to an independent court process and be adequately punished. The victims were arrested at the Kwanggok Nalime TNI post near Yogorini village on their way from Tingginambut towards Mulia, Papua, Indonesia.
